Star Trek Frame DS9 Frame

This short shot, about 28 frames (just short of a full second), was extremely difficult to accomplish. Darvin is seen to be standing in the hallway behind Cirano Jones. To make this shot work, it looks like the special effects team filmed Darvin on a blue stage and then composited him within the action of the original episode. The actions of both Jones and the entering characters had to be masked out to allow Darvin to be inserted. As you can see, the only discernable artifact is that the shadows in the hallway don't precisely match. This scene was masterfully created, and although it only lasts a brief second, it is extremely effective. The only qualm that I have is that it took me a second viewing to get the full effect as the shot was so short.
