Star Trek Frame DS9 Frame

Back Index Forward

With both old footage behind and in front of Bashir, the special effects artists of DS9 had to create a multibple mask set for this shot. Bashir was most likely shot on a blue stage and composited on top of the original footage with a mask of the tribble-filled table composited on top of him (notice that alothough you can see some fallen tribbles on the ground under the table that you don't see Bashir's legs). An interesting twist is that Bashir reaches onto the table and picks up a tribble. You can see the tribble he grabs in the DS9 frame, it sits a little higher than the other adjacent tribbles in the original footage. While filming Bashir there must have been a small pedistal holding up that single tribble at the correct height.
